Summary
The Fila Axilus 2 Energized is a shoe specifically designed for players with a medium to wide foot. This shoe does not require any break-in period and you are going to move quickly on the court due to the lightweight of the shoe.
However, the shoe is not breathable which can feel uncomfortable when you play in it for long hours. Despite the lack of breathability of the shoe you are going to benefit tremendously from the durability of the upper and outsole.

Tennis fans are starting to notice that both ATP and WTA players are starting to wear more and more of Fila’s tennis shoes. This is because Fila is doing an amazing job at producing durable, lightweight and stable shoes for all types of tennis players.
They have added a new edition to their line of tennis shoes which is called Fila Axilus 2 Energized. This shoe is getting some attention on the market and some players are enjoying the awesome features that come with it.
In this post, I’m going to provide you with an in-depth review of the Fila Axilus 2 Energized and how it can benefit your game. Let’s start off with the design.
Table of Contents
Design
Straight out of the box, the design and cosmetics of the shoe look amazing and attractive. I really like the men’s Tie Dye Agave Green and the women’s white. Both look stunning and would hopefully uplift your mood when you wear them onto the court.
Upper
Now let’s take a closer look at the upper material. Straight out of the box the upper material is made of lightweight materials. The whole upper is covered with a moulded forefoot cage which does really well to provide you with good stability and support. This really does a good job of keeping your feet grounded during rallies and help with your movement.
Moreover, the upper is incredibly durable. If you tend to play long hours on the court then you would love wearing this shoe.
The only downside to this upper is the breathability. It can easily get hot when playing in them which can make it uncomfortable at times.
If you are looking for a shoe that is breathable then I would recommend the Asics Gel-Resolution 8. The breathability of the shoe is superb and you would also enjoy the awesome features that come with it.
Toe Box
Since the whole upper is covered with the moulded rubber compound, this is going to provide you with excellent durability and toe drag protection. If you are someone who likes to slide a lot or drag their toes often then you would enjoy wearing this shoe.
Arch and Ankle Support
The arch area is nicely done to provide you with good stability. This would really help with your movement on the court. The heel and ankle area may not be the tallest height compared to other shoes such as the Diadora Speed Blushield 5 AG. But it still does a good job at holding your ankle and feet in perfect position for stability.
Lacing System and Tongue
The lacing system is simple yet very effective at securing your foot. Firstly, it has extra lacing holes for you to use if you need more grip on your shoe. Next, the lacing holes are covered with the caging rubber which is used all over on the upper to help make the lacing holes last longer.
The only downside to the lacing system is that the laces can easily wear out. I highly recommend that you get your own laces once you purchase this shoe. The tongue is thin but well padded. This is going to provide you with decent comfort.
Insole and Midsole
The insole is nicely made to provide you with decent cushioning and comfort when you wear the shoe. The midsole on the other hand is very stiff and hard to even bend.
In addition, if you look closely at the midsole you would notice that it has a plastic shank that goes all the way from the lateral side central under the arch to the medial side.
The purpose of this is to provide you with good arch support.
And lastly, it has a TPU midfoot stabilizer for confidence when moving aggressively and the use of energized rubber does really well at cushioning your feet for comfort and rebound.
Weight
The Fila Axilus 2 Energized comes at a weight of 13.7 ounces with a size of 10.5. This is definitely in the lightweight category. When you put the shoe on and play with it for a while you would notice that it feels nice and lightweight. This makes it a joy to play in them because you would be able to move quickly and comfortably on the court.
Fit
In terms of fit, this shoe does not require any break-in period which is awesome because your feet can easily adjust to the shoe quickly. This is great because you can start playing your style of tennis within a short space of time. Moreover, the inside of the upper feels soft and comfortable to wear. This makes it nice to play in them.
This shoe is suitable for players who have medium to wide feet. However, if you have a narrow foot it’s recommended that you go down a half size. With that said, if your feet is too narrow then I would suggest that you try a different shoe because you might experience some heel slippage.
If you are a player that has any foot injuries such as Achilles Tendonitis then I wouldn’t recommend this shoe. If you want to know what are some of the best tennis shoes for Achilles Tendonitis then I highly recommend that you read this in-depth review post.
Outsole
The outsole is another area Fila did really well to improve from the last version. It is made of durable Evergrind rubber which is going to provide you with excellent durability on the court.
As a shoe that is classified as lightweight and minimal, it’s impressive to see how it can deal with the toughness and hardship of today’s game.
And the great thing is that it’s backed up by a six-month outsole durability guarantee. If you are a player that is very hard on their outsole then you would enjoy wearing this shoe and you would enjoy the benefits that come with it.
In addition, the outsole tread is made of a modified herringbone pattern to provide you with good traction and grip on all court surfaces. This would help you to move comfortably on the court.
Also, if you take a closer look at the outsole you would notice that it has a huge air channel from the toe to the shank. This would provide you with efficient airflow and good stability whiles sliding on the hardcourt.
Colour Options
Fila does a really good job of providing players with many colours to choose from. This is great because players can select any colour that suits their tennis outfit and walk on the court with a lot of confidence.
Price
Another key point that is worth talking about is the price of the shoe. The Fila Axilus 2 Energized comes under $150 which is a fair price compared to other tennis shoes that are very expensive such as the Lacoste AG-LT 21 and NikeCourt Air Zoom Vapor Pro.
On top of that, the Axilus 2 Energized comes with good features that can help you play better on the court. This makes it great for players who are on a lower budget to offer the shoe.
Final Thoughts!!
As this post comes to its end, Fila has done a really good job at making a tennis shoe that provides you with lightweight, durability and stability. However, there are some areas that need improvement such as the breathability and cushioning of the shoe.
Apart from these major drawbacks, it’s such a great shoe for players who have a medium to wide foot. On top of that, it comes with different colours to choose from. If you manage to pick this shoe up I wish you the very best in your next match. I would sign off by saying keep grinding on the court.
