Summary

The Diadora Speed Blushield Torne is the perfect tennis shoe combination of comfort, stability and durability. If you are looking for these features, you want to check out the Blushield Torne, formerly called the Speed BluShield 5 AG.

However, just like any shoe, there are downsides to it. This is the same as the Blushield Torneo. Some downsides include how expensive the shoe is and requires some break-in period. If you liked the 5 AG then you should indeed check out the Blushield Torneo.

Pros

  • Nice looking design
  • Very comfortable
  • Good stability
  • Excellent durability
  • Nice cushioning

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Cushioning needs improvement
  • Requires some break-in period

Diadora has released another tennis shoe for this year after Diadora Speed B-Icon. This shoe is a bit different from the B-Icon from how it looks to how it performs.

However, this version is not about comparing it with the B-Icon but instead the Blushield 5 AG. The Torneo is an upgrade of the Blushield 5AG. The question is how well did Diadora do? Let’s find out by starting with the design.

Design

Right out of the box, the shoe looks sleek, simple and good-looking. This makes it great to wear on the court and even off the court. Personally, I like the men’s white colour version. It looks cool to wear.

Upper

One of the differences between the Torneo and the Blushield 5 AG is the upper. When you look closely at the Torneo you would notice that the logo of Diadora is not stitched in like the 5 AG.

Also, the upper of the Torneo is more friendly and acceptable to your feet when you wear it compared with the previous version. Moreover, you are going to enjoy the stability and cushioning that comes along with it.

The breathability of the shoe is also good thanks to the help of the little small breakpoints. The upper is also made of synthetic materials which include air mesh.

This is great at providing you with comfort and at the same time allowing fresh air to enter the shoe whiles letting moisture leave.

Toe Box, Ankle Support and Heel Area

The toe box is well made to give you the right fit and comfort when you wear it. On top of that, it has great durability to accommodate you.

In terms of ankle support, it is well padded which is going to get you great support and makes it fun to play in them.

And lastly is the heel. The height of the shoe is similar to the previous version. This means you are going to get great stability and support when playing in these shoes.

Insole and Midsole

Next up are the insole and midsole. The insole comes with a removable layer which you can replace anytime with your prefered choice. Also, when you wash the shoe, you can take the insole out for it to dry quickly.

In terms of the midsole, it’s exactly the same as the Diadora Speed Blushield 5 AG.

Let’s break it down for you. It comes with the lightweight EVA foam for underfoot cushioning, bounce and energy return.

Moreover, the Blushield technology offers layers of cushioning which also support your foot within the shoe. This makes you perform really well on the court compared to the Blushield 4.

Weight

In terms of weight, the shoe is bulky. However, it doesn’t carry much weight as you would expect but I wouldn’t say it’s the lightest shoe on the market.

Lacing System and Tongue

The way both the lacing system and tongue are made is very effective at giving you grip and stability. Let’s look at each of them closely.

The lacing holes have two sections. The first section which is close to the tongue has vertical eyelets. This type of eyelets requires you to use them regardless if you want to or not. This is because if you don’t you may experience a little bit of movement in there.

However, if you use it as it’s intended you would get a perfect fit and lock your ankle. This makes movement on the court more smooth and better.

The second section of the lacing system has got lacing eyelets made of leather. Again, using them would give you a better grip and support.

The tongue, on the other hand, is well-padded material which does really well at providing you with cushioning and support. This allows you to play comfortably without putting too much pressure on your forefoot.

And lastly, there are leather holes connected to the tongue. This feature is used to keep the laces stable and stops them from distracting you in the game.

Fit

Right out of the box this shoe may need some break-in period. I would say it may take a couple of hours for your feet to get used to it. One way to break in quickly is to wear it off the court as well so that your feet get used to it quickly.

The fit is slightly different compared to the Blushield 5 AG. The fit of the shoe is more forgiving due to the plush uppers. This makes it great for players who have narrow to medium feet. However, I would suggest that you go down a half size to get the right size and comfort.

The shoe is also great for a wide foot. If you are going to go for this size you can go true to size. Moreover, anyone with a 2E should go up to 1/2. Again, this would give you a better fit and comfort. And lastly, the shoe is great for players who are suffering from heel pain, foot pain, ankle sprainers and others.

Outsole

The outsole of the Torneo is exactly like the Blushield 5G. It comes with the popular modified herringbone pattern which does a great job at providing you with good traction and stability on any court surface. This would allow you to move better and be more comfortable on the court.

In addition, the outsole comes with a duratech 5000 rubber compound, which is going to provide you with excellent durability on the court.

If you are someone who tends to wear their outsole quickly then this shoe got your back.

Another cool thing about the outsole is the flange. It’s nicely made to give you so much grip when moving side to side during the rallies.

Colour Options

Another downside with the Speed Blushield Torneo is the lack of colour options. As of now, the shoe comes in three different colours. I would love to see Diadora release more colour options so that players can select which one they prefer.

Price

As highlighted earlier in the post, the shoe is one of the most expensive shoes in 2022. Although it may be expensive it comes with great features such as nice comfort, stability and durability that would hopefully take your game to the next level.

If you think this shoe is out of your budget then you could try other shoes that are less expensive such as the Adidas CourtFlash. The shoe is around $80 which is a great deal with the awesome features that come with it as well.

Wrapping Up!

As this post comes to its conclusion, we can see that Diadora has managed to improve this version a little bit. You are going to enjoy the amazing comfort, stability and durability that comes with this shoe.

However, the shoe is a little expensive compared to a lot of tennis shoes and may take some time to break in the shoe. All in all, it’s a great update from Diadora.
