Summary
Yonex continues to take tennis shoes to the next level. Their new edition the Yonex PC Fusion Rev 4 is going to provide you with support, cushioning, and speed. Also, it’s great to play with them in other sports such as pickleball and outdoor basketball.
However, there are some areas that need improvements such as the medial side durability, lack of breathability and lack of colour options to choose from. Despite these criticisms of the shoe, it’s a nice looking shoe that can bring a lot to your game.
Pros
- Good traction on all court surfaces
- Excellent outsole and upper durability
- Low to the ground
- Glove-like fit
- Lightweight
Cons
- Limited colour options to choose from
- Lack of breathability
- Lack of durability on the medial side
Yonex may not be popular like other tennis shoe brands such as Nike, Adidas and Asics. However, they are very good at making awesome tennis shoes that can take your game to the next level. Their previous line of tennis shoes have been successful on the market and continue up to this day.
Yonex has added a new iteration to their line of Fusion Rev series and it’s called the Yonex PC Fusion Rev 4. If you liked the previous version then you want to check this version out because it’s not only good for tennis but other sports such as outdoor basketball and even pickleball.
In this post, I’m going to provide you with an in-depth review of the Yonex PC Fusion Rev 4 and how it can benefit your game. Let’s start off with the design and cosmetic of the shoe.
Table of Contents
Design
Right out of the box, the design and cosmetic of the shoe look amazing and attractive. Both the design and cosmetic are sleek looking and bright. Personally, I love the men’s red/white because it’s colourful and good looking.
Also, the women’s white is amazing looking as well. If you are someone who loves design and colourful shoes then you would enjoy wearing this shoe on the court.
Upper
Next is the upper of the shoe. The way the upper is designed makes it unique and special compared to other tennis shoes upper. It is mostly made of polyurethane material and some mesh.
Since the majority of the shoe is made of polyurethane material it’s going to do a very good job at moulding your feet nicely. This as a result would give you a glove-like fit whiles playing in them.
However, the big downside to these materials is that you are going to get poor breathability. This can get very uncomfortable as you play long matches because your feet starts to heat up very quickly.
If you are looking for a breathable shoe then I would strongly recommend the Adidas Ubersonic 4 which has excellent breathability.
In terms of the durability of the upper, I would say it’s very durable. However, you are not going to get good durability on the medial side. If you are a player that likes to slide a lot on the medial side then I wouldn’t recommend this shoe because it would wear out quickly. And lastly, the use of inner Bootie Construction wraps the foot with elastic material for a soft and comfortable fit.
Toe Box
Are you are toe dragger? If you are then I have got a piece of happy news for you. You are going to get excellent durability around the toe box due to the amazing polyurethane material.
Lacing System, Tongue and Ankle Collar
The lacing system of the Fusion Rev 4 is similar to the Air Zoom Vapor Pro which comes with an asymmetrical lacing system. This is really going to give you a lot of security and grip in the forefoot area.
Moreover, what makes the lacing system even more unique is how it has two layers. This is the middle and outermost layer of the shoe.
This is going to provide you with an incredible grip and stability. The tongue is well padded to provide you with comfort and nice cushioning on the court.
The ankle collar is wider than normal. This makes it easy to wear the shoe quickly.
However, you need to tighten the shoe a little more to give you a strong grip. This way you can maintain your movement and balance on the court.
Insole and Midsole
The shoe comes with a textured insole which is going to provide you with nice comfort, grip and cushioning when you wear it. Also, it’s removable which makes it easy to replace once it’s not useable again.
The midsole on the other hand is made of Power Cushion Plus technology which does well to reduce any foot fatigue and provide you with more energy. In addition, the Power Carbon is mounted in the midfoot area to help maximize stability and at the same time keeping the weight of the shoe down.
Weight
The Yonex PC Fusion Rev 4 comes with a weight of 4.6 ounces with a size of 10.5. This is definitely on the lightweight spectrum and would give you the advantage to move quickly on the court.
Furthermore, since the shoe is low to the ground and lightweight you would feel more connected to the court and allow you to hit the ball with enough pace.
Fit
Right out of the box the shoe does not require any break-in period. This is awesome because your feet can adjust to the shoe quickly and allow you to play your style of tennis.
In terms of fit, I would say the shoe is more suitable for players who have a medium to wide foot. If you have any of these foot types you would be able to slip into the shoe nicely and get a snug fit. More it’s true to length which is great because you don’t have to either go a half size up or down.
On the other hand, if you have a narrow foot I wouldn’t recommend this shoe because it would leave a lot of room in the shoe which as a result makes you feel uncomfortable. If you are looking for a narrow shoe then I would recommend the Prince T22 Lite or NikeCourt Vapor Lite. These shoes would really fit you very well.
Outsole
Another key strength of this shoe is the outsole. The way the outsole is structured makes it similar to the Power Cushion Eclipsion 3 which has varieties of patterns to provide you with excellent grip on all court surfaces. Firstly, it has a griper herringbone pattern which is going to provide you with an excellent grip on the clay court.
Secondly, the middle of the outsole has got a large terraced gap which makes the shoe a little lighter than what it would have been. Moreover, it allows air to flow inside of the shoe with ease.
Thirdly, the medial side of the outsole has a dense herringbone pattern which is going to provide you with a good grip on the hard court surfaces.
Lastly, if you are a player that is very hard on their outsole then you would enjoy playing in this outsole because it’s very durable.
Colour Options
Just like the KSwiss Hypercourt Express 2, this shoe comes with limited colour options. As nice looking as this shoe looks, it would have been great to see more colour options from Yonex. Hopefully, Yonex can produce varieties of colours in their next iteration.
Price
The last important point to discuss is the price of the shoe. It comes around $135 which is in the expensive categories when it comes to buying tennis shoes. Having an expensive shoe like the Yonex PC Fusion Rev 4 prevents players such as beginners who have low budgets to afford this type of shoe.
Although this shoe may be expensive to afford, however, it comes with incredible features such as a low to the ground feel and excellent traction on all court surfaces that can take your game to the next level.
Final Thoughts!!
As this post comes to its conclusion, it’s obvious that the Fusion Rev 4 is going to provide you with excellent durability on the upper, glove-like fit and lightweight feel. However, there are some criticisms of the shoe such as lack of breathability and limited colour options to choose from.
Overall, it’s a great shoe to play with on the tennis court and other sports such as pickleball and outdoor basketball. I hope you like this shoe and helps you to play better on the court. I would end by saying good luck in your next match.
