Summary

From zero to hero! The Nike Air Zoom Zero is a fantastic tennis shoe specifically made for medium to narrow foot. This shoe is going to provide you with lightweight, good cushioning and nice stability

However, there are some drawbacks to this shoe. For examples, it’s difficult putting this shoe on and the outsole durability is poor. It would be great to see Nike improve in these areas of the shoe in their next edition. Overall, it’s a fantastic looking shoe to wear both on and off the court.

Pros

  • Good stability
  • Lightweight
  • Well-cushioned
  • Nice looking shoe
  • Many colour options to choose from

Cons

  • Lack of durability on the outsole
  • Difficult to put on

When it comes to making high performing tennis shoes, Nike and other brands such as Adidas has been at the forefront of the race. Each year Nike continues to take tennis shoes to the next level and this time around they didn’t fail to disappoint.

The Air Zoom Zero is specifically designed to provide you with speed, comfort and performance. If you are the type of players that are looking for these features in a shoe then you would love playing in these. This shoe is promoted by both the ATP and WTA players such as Frances Tiafoe, Jack Sock, Elina Svitolina and Sloane Stephens.

In this post, I’m going to provide you with a thorough in-depth review of the NikeCourt Air Zoom Zero and how it can benefit your game. If you are excited and ready like me, let’s start with the design and cosmetic of the shoe.

Design

Right out of the box, the design and cosmetic of the shoe look sleek and nice. They have a street style feel to them which make it great to wear them both on and off the court. As someone who loves design and colours, I love the men’s black version and the women’s red is spot on as well.

Upper

Next is the upper of the shoe. The upper of the shoe is special and unique from the previous Nike’s tennis shoes. It comes with a half bootie construction which is going to provide you with excellent support.

This helps to lock your feet in perfect position and allow you to play comfortably on the court.

However, the big downside to the upper material is the lack of breathability. This is an area that would be nice to see Nike improve on, in their next iteration.

If you are looking for a breathable shoe then I would strongly recommend the Adidas Ubersonic 4. It has really good breathability that would support you throughout the match.

Toe Box and Medial Side

Both the toe box and medial side are well made to provide you with excellent durability. If you like to slide, skid or even drag your toes then you would benefit a lot from this shoe. Not only would it provide you with good durability but great protection on the court.

Moreover, the toe box offers a bit more room compared to previous Nike tennis shoes such as the Vapor X. This prevents your toes from feeling scrunched together.

Heel Counter

It may not be the tallest heel counter on the market. However, it’s going to keep your heels locked in and provide you with nice cushioning and stability as you move around the court.

Tongue, Lacing System and Ankle Collar

The tongue is well padded to provide you with comfort and nice cushioning. Also, since it’s connected to both the lacing system and the bootie construction, it’s going to keep it stable. This way it prevents the tongue from distracting you over the course of the match.

The way the lacing system is constructed is very interesting. The lacing holes are made of leather material just like the laces themselves.

This is going to provide you with a secure fit and grip. This helps to keep your feet stable and allow you to move comfortably on the court.

The ankle collar is going to give you a glove-like fit when you wear the shoe. This is going to provide you with excellent stability and a secure fit.

Insole and Midsole

The insole of the shoe is nicely made to provide you with excellent cushioning and comfort. This allows you to move well on the court.

In terms of the midsole, it is curved in a specific way to provide you with a good responsive feel and lots of cushioning underfoot especially with the heel area. On top of that, the angled full-length Air Unit is going to allow you to move very quickly on the court.

Weight

The Air Zoom Zero comes with a weight of 11.6 ounces and a size of 8.5. This is definitely in the lightweight category. It would allow you to move quickly on the court.

Fit

The way the shoe is shaped and moulded makes it suitable for players who have medium to narrow feet. If you have any of these types of feet you are going to really enjoy wearing this shoe and benefit a lot from it. If you have a wider foot instead then I would recommend that you read this full review of the best tennis shoes for a wide foot. You would find it very useful.

In addition to the fit, it’s true to length and does not require any break-in period. This is great because your feet can easily get used to the shoe within a short period of time and start playing your style of tennis. Also, you don’t have to either go up or down a size.

The only downside to the fit is that it’s difficult to put the shoe on. This can be frustrating putting the shoe on due to how the shoe is shaped and how the ankle collar is narrow to put your feet through. So be a little patience with it.

Outsole

The outsole of the Air Zoom Zero is very unique compared to Nike’s previous tennis shoes versions. Firstly, an Air Zoom Unit is instilled in the outsole area to provide you with nice cushioning and comfort. This allows you to move freely and comfortably on the court.

Secondly, the unique tread pattern on the shoe is going to provide you with excellent traction on all court surfaces.

In fact, I would say the outsole is sticky than normal. This would give you a very good grip and allow you to hit the ball with enough pace.

And thirdly is the durability of the outsole. Honestly, it’s not going to be the most durable outsole on the market.

If you are someone who is very hard on their outsole then I would recommend a different shoe such as the NikeCourt Air Zoom Vapor Pro.

Colour Option

Another benefit of the Nike Air Zoom Zero is the varieties of colours to choose from. This is great for players because you get to select the colour that suits your tennis outfit.

Price

The last important point to talk about is the price of the shoe. On average this shoe comes around the $120 price point which is a fair price for a type of tennis shoe that is full of amazing features.

If you feel that this shoe is very expensive and want a lower price point then I would recommend the NikeCourt Vapor Lite. The Vapor Lite is also a great shoe that would take your game to the next level.

Final Thoughts!!

In conclusion, Nike has done a great job with the Air Zoom Zero. This is a great addition to Nike’s category of tennis shoes that is going to provide you with stability, cushioning, and comfort. However, it may not be the best outsole durability on the market and can be very difficult to put the shoe on.

Hopefully, Nike can improve on these areas of the shoe and make it even better in their next iteration. Overall, it’s a great looking shoe to play with and would definitely help you play better on the court. I hope you like this shoe and helps you to play better on the court. I would end by saying good luck in your next match.
