Prince company is normally associated with making tennis racquets. However, they do sometimes make tennis shoes and other types of equipment. And earlier this year they have already released a new tennis shoe and it’s called Prince Phantom 1.

This shoe is built to provide you with the best support, stability, and comfort. However, the big question is did Prince manage to hit their target? If you are going through the same thought pattern as me then let’s dive deep by analyzing each part of the shoe starting with the design.

Design

Straight out of the box, the way and how the shoe is shaped is similar to basketball shoes. This is awesome to see a mid-cut tennis shoe on the market because you don’t normally see this type of shoe on the market. Not only that but it reminds me of Coco Guaff’s latest shoe with New Balance, the New Balance Coco CG1.

In terms of design, the Phantom 1 comes with a combination of white and black. This is a basic and simplistic design from Prince.

I wouldn’t say it’s the most attractive shoe on the market but it’s cool to wear it on the court. You can even wear it outside of the court to do other activities such as going for a walk, gym, etc. because of the mid-cut shape.

Upper

The next part we need to take a look at is the upper. It comes with the usual combination of both synthetic and mesh materials. These are good picks from Prince because it allows the upper to provide you with the best support. This is great for your movement on the court.

Moreover, if you are someone whose feet normally get warm very quickly then you with benefit a lot from this shoe.

The materials used provide you with the best ventilation to deal with the tough weather conditions on the court.

However, I was not all that convinced about the upper durability of the shoe. It would be nice to see Prince makes some improvements in that area of the shoe.

Toe Box, Ankle Support, and Heel Area

Based on the size and length of the Prince Phantom 1, it’s more suitable for players who have a medium feet. If you are someone who has medium feet then you wouldn’t have any issues with the toe box area. You are going to enjoy the comfort and support that comes along with it.

However, as I said earlier in the upper, the toe box may not be the most durable on the market. Therefore you need to be cautious when playing in them.

Since the shoe comes in a mid-cut size, it’s going to give you the best ankle support and protection when playing in them. On top of that, the heel area is going to be in a perfect position when sliding and moving on the court.

Insole and Midsole

There is nothing peculiar regarding the insole and midsole. It’s done in a basic and simplistic way to provide you with the best performance.

The insole is removable which is great because you can take it out to dry quickly when it’s washed.

Also, it’s going to provide you with the best cushioning and comfort when playing in it.

The midsole, on the other hand, comes in full-length EVA foam. The purpose of this is to provide you with nice cushioning and a responsive quick feel.

Weight

The next feature to talk about is the weight of the shoe. I wouldn’t say this shoe is lightweight and it’s not heavy either. It’s in between. This shouldn’t be any challenge when wearing this shoe due to the weight. Therefore, you could easily manoeuvre around the court without experiencing much discomfort.

Lacing System and Tongue

There is nothing peculiar about the lacing system and tongue compared to other tennis shoes such as Wilson Kaos Swift.

The tongue is well padded to provide you with nice cushioning and comfort when you play in them. This makes your movement on the court better.

The lacing system is simple and easy to use. Not only that but it comes with extra lacing holes for you to use in case you want more grip and stability.

On top of that, the tongue has a leather hole attached to the tongue to keep the tongue stable.

Fit

As hinted earlier on, the fit and size of the shoe make it more suitable for players who have a medium foot. Also, the shoe does require some time to break in, in order to get you going. Therefore, it’s essential to give it some time for it to break down.

Outsole

The outsole comes with a unique x-light endurance rubber compound. It’s there to provide you with the durability you need on the court. However, I wouldn’t say it’s the best durability outsole on the market.

Furthermore, it has a multi-directional pattern which is there to provide you with traction on a variety of court surfaces. This could save you money from buying different shoes for different surfaces.

Colour Options

Another downside to this shoe is that it comes with limited colour options. It comes in only in white and black colour. I would love to see more different colours added as the season progress.

Price

The last important topic to talk about is the price of the Prince Phantom 1. It comes to around $119.00 which is a little expensive compared to the Head Revolt 2.0. Although, the features it brings can take your game to the next level.

Conclusion!

As the article draws to it’s conclusion, we could see that Prince has built the Phantom 1 to provide you with the best stability, comfort and support. If you are a player looking for these features then this is the perfect shoe for you.

However, there are areas of the shoe that needs improvement such as the durability and adding different colours to the list.

Summary

Prince has released their new tennis shoe for the year 2023 and it’s called the Prince Phantom 1. This shoe is one of the few tennis shoes that comes in a mid-cut format like a basketball shoe. This is going to provide you with good stability and support when playing in them.

However, I would say it does need some time to break in the shoe before your feet can get used to it. Not only that but the durability needs improvement. Apart from that, it’s nice to see a mid-cut shoe on the market again.
