Are you someone struggling to decide if you should buy the Adidas Ubersonic 2 or 3? Or are you deciding if it’s worth to spend your hard-earned money on any of these shoes?

If you answered YES to either one or both of the questions then you have arrived at the perfect place. In this post, I’m going to provide you with an in-depth review of the different parts of both shoes.

Hopefully, by the end of this post, you can make up your mind and decide which shoe suits your needs. If you are ready like me, I suggest you make yourself comfortable because you are in for a nice treat.

Design

Editor Rating:

  • Adidas Ubersonic 2 – 3.5/5
  • Adidas Ubersonic 3 – 3/5

If you want my honest opinion about the design of both shoes, I would say that they are not the best on the market. When you compare it to other shoes like the Asics Solution Speed FF and Air Zoom Vapor X Knit you notice that Adidas needs to do a better job with the design.

However, in this scenario, I would put the Ubersonic 2 ahead of the 3 because it looks more simple and smooth.

Upper

Now let’s take a closer look at the upper. The Ubersonic 3 is designed with a breathable net mesh upper which is going to provide you with excellent breathability.

Ubersonic 3 upper

This is great if you are playing long and intense matches because your feet are going to stay fresh with the moisture leaving quickly out of the shoe.

In addition, the upper would expand naturally around your foot to reduce skin irritation and fit you more comfortably.

The Ubersonic 2 is very similar to the 3. The 2 is made of breathable knit mesh which is going to provide you with breathability and stability. This is super useful when playing intense high pace matches.

Lastly, it has a Sprintframe construction to help you closer to the ground to deliver high levels of support while remaining lightweight.

Overall, both shoes are well constructed when it comes to the upper. As a result, I would give them an equal score for both shoes.

Lacing System and Tongue

Editor Rating:

Adidas Ubersonic 2 – 4.5/5

Adidas Ubersonic 3 – 4/5

The lacing system is where we spot our first differences between these shoes. You notice that the Ubersonic 2 has the eyelet come down pretty low on the medial side on to the arch.

Ubersonic 2 upper

Adidas purposely designed the lacing system that way to help maintain the stability of the shoe without sacrificing weight. Furthermore, it has extra holes for you to use if you want to secure your feet more.

The tongue is slippery and thin which can be very annoying for players who are prone to ankle sprains. As a result, this may not be a good choice for players with such issues.

On the other hand, the Ubersonic 3 lacing system is stagger and they don’t go down like the 2s. Also, they have external eyelets which can be a problem for most players because it can decrease the stability of the shoes.

Lastly, the tongue is exactly like the 2s which again can be an issue for some players. Overall, the Ubersonic 2 comes on top with the lacing system and tongue.

Midsole

Editor Rating:

Adidas Ubersonic 3 – 5/5

The midsole of the Ubersonic 2 is made of Adiprene technology which is located in the forefoot. This is going to provide you with good cushioning at high impact and absorb them. This makes it perfect for players who play at a very fast pace and move aggressively.

The Ubersonic 3 on the other hand, is designed with a full-length PU midsole. This is going to provide you with responsive and resilient cushioning.

The midsole is well-built to provide you with cushioning and resilient during every match you play. Also, the cushioning provides an enhanced court feel delivering a super reactive cushioning that aids take-offs and landings. However, it may not be the most durable midsole on the market.

This one is a little tricky and difficult one because each outsole is very good. I would give Ubersonic 3 the edge on this one because of the excellent responsive and cushioning feel.

Heel Counter

Editor Rating:

Adidas Ubersonic 3 – 3/5

The heel counter can sometimes seem insignificant, however, it worth pointing out if you are going to purchase one of these shoes. The Ubersonic 2 has a long heel counter to provide you with a glove-like feeling when you wear them.

Ubersonic 3 Heel Counter

However, it’s very fragile which is not very good because it can easily get damaged.

The good news is the external outrigger heel counter is going to give you some stability as you move around the court.

The Ubersonic 3 is a bit similar to the 2.

The heel counter for the 3 is not very solid as you would expect. The outrigger heel counter has this pressed wax which is not very useful when it comes to stability.

In this scenario, I think both shoes are squared up and I think it’s worth Adidas to check the heel counter and improve on it.

Outsole

Editor Rating:

Adidas Ubersonic 3 – 5/5

There are not many differences between the 2 and 3 when it comes to the outsole. Firstly, the Ubersonic 2 is made of Adiwear 6 which is going to provide you with an optimal balance of abrasion resistance.

Ubersonic 3 outsole

On top of that, you are going to have excellent traction and flexibility which makes it ideal to use on both clay and hard courts.

Secondly, the Ubersonic 3 is also made of the same material as the Ubersonic 2.

However, the only difference is this shoe is ideal to play on multi-surface and artificial grass courts. Moreover, it provides you with a better grip when you are pivoting and sliding.

Overall, it’s fair to say that it’s an equal point for both shoes when it comes to the outsole.

Toe Box

Editor Rating:

Adidas Ubersonic 2 – 5/5

Adidas Ubersonic 3 – 4/5

Another small difference between these shoes is the toe box. The Ubersonic 3 doesn’t have a lot of reinforcement around the toe box like the 2.

This can be a big issue for players who like to slide on hard courts because Ubersonic 3 is not going to be very durable. As a result, the Ubersonic 2 comes on top with this one.

Weight and Size

Editor Rating:

Adidas Ubersonic 2 – 5/5

Adidas Ubersonic 3 – 4.5/5

In terms of size, the Ubersonic 2 is more suitable for players who have a narrow, medium and wide feet.

However, if you have extra-wide foot then this would not be suitable for you. Also, it may require a little bit of break-in period for players with a wide foot.

On the other hand, the Ubersonic 3 is more suitable for players with narrow, medium and wide. On top of that, it does not require any break-in period even with a wide foot.

The Ubersonic 2 weighs 12.9 ounces whiles the 3s weighs 14.3 ounces. Both shoes would be classified as lightweight, however, the 2 feels more lightweight when you play with it.

This one is with tough for me but I would give the 2 the edge over the 3 because of the lightweight.

Price

Editor Rating:

Adidas Ubersonic 3 – 4/5

Now let’s talk about the cost because that’s where some of you may make your final decision.

The Ubersonic 2 comes in a price range between $99 – $120 and the 3s $99 – $130. As you can see there is not much difference between them. With that said I would give them an equal score.

Final Thoughts!!

As this post comes to the end with this crazy debate between the Ubersonic 2 and 3. It’s very clear that both shoes have their pros and cons. However, both shoes are very popular on the market and Adidas has done a great job at making them.

Now the choice is in your hands now to select which shoe that suits your needs. If you manage to pick one of these shoes up then I wish you a lot of success in your future matches.
