Over the decades, Asics has established themselves as one of the best companies at designing world-class tennis shoes. Some of their best tennis shoes made are the Asics Gel Resolution 7 and 8.

Both shoes are incredibly awesome, however, the question that everyone wants to know is, which one is the best? In this post, I’m going to give you an in-depth analysis of the different parts of the shoe. And hopefully, conclude which one is the best.

It’s important to take notice that in this post, I would be using the black colour for the Asics Gel Resolution 7 whiles the white version for the Gel Resolution 8.

If you are a big fan of black tennis shoes then make sure to check 12 of the best black tennis shoes for both men and women. Now let’s take a look at the Asics Gel Resolution 7 and 8.

Design

Editor Rating:

  • Asics Gel 7 – 5/5
  • Asics Gel 8 – 5/5

In terms of design and aesthetic, Asics has a very good taste. The black for the Gel 7 and white for the Gel 8 is simple, attractive and can even boost your confidence on the court.

Not only are these colours/design spot on but all the other colours that come with it. They all look superb and sleek. So overall in terms of design, I think it’s an equal point for both sides.

Midsole

Editor Rating:

  • Asics Gel 7 – 4/5
  • Asics Gel 8 – 5/5

One of the major differences between 7 and 8 is the midsole. If you take a closer look at the 8 you would notice that it has a Dynamo lateral technology compared with the 7.

This is a massive advantage because when you are playing aggressively on the court, the dynamo lateral technology would provide you with great support and stability.

Moreover, with the use of this new technology, you can easily pick your pace up and manage to cover the court at the same time.

With that said, the Gel 8 wins the midsole part of the shoe with the excellent support it gives to you as you play the match.

Upper

Editor Rating:

  • Asics Gel 7 – 4/5
  • Asics Gel 8 – 5/5

Another major difference between the two is the upper section of the shoe. The Gel 7 had an anti-gravel upper which encase each foot in durable comfort and support.

On the other hand, Gel 8 has a flexion fit upper. This really holds your feet in perfect position and provides you with excellent breathability. It does this with the help of the mesh by allowing the air to flow in and out of the shoe.

This keeps your feet fresh and creates a better and healthier environment for your feet to win in. Again, I feel that the Gel 8 comes up on top with its excellent breathability and how it makes your feet super comfortable at the same time.

Lacing System

Editor Rating:

  • Asics Gel 7 – 4.5/5
  • Asics Gel 8 – 4/5

The third difference between 7 and 8 Gel-Resolution is the lacing system. The 8 has a Dyna-rap technology which is attached to the lacing system.

This is super useful if you have a narrow foot because when you pull the Dyna-rap technology it helps to encase perfectly with your foot.

This might be a slight disadvantage to someone who has a narrow foot.

The 7 does not have any of that which makes it ideal for all foot size.

On top of that, they have more lacing holes for you to use if you want to tighten it even more.

With the lacing system, I would put the Gel – resolution 7 at the top for its options for all foot size.

Weight and Fit

Editor Rating:

  • Asics Gel 7 – 4/5
  • Asics Gel 8 – 4/5

The weight and fit of both shoes are one of the similarities for both shoes. They have similar weight so if you enjoy wearing the 7 then you are likely to enjoy the 8 as well.

Although some people may argue that the 8 weighs more than the 7 despite the small margin. For example, the 8 weighs 420g whiles the 7 weighs 380g. In my opinion, I don’t think it’s that of a big issue.

The same thing applies to the fit. Both shoes have a similar arch height and width size. This provides you with good comfort and cushioning as you move up and down the court. In terms of weight and fit, it’s equal on both sides of the coin from mine perspective.

Outsole

Editor Rating:

  • Asics Gel 7 – 4/5
  • Asics Gel 8 – 4/5

Another similarity between both shoes is the outsole. To be fair, it seems Asics just redesign the whole outsole for the Gel 8 with small improvements.

For example, the pivot points provide you with better quick transitions and sharp turns.

Apart from that, the amazing durable outsole is still part of the new shoe. This is one of the key fundaments of most Asics tennis shoes.

Despite a little improvement on the outsole with the Gel 8, I still think both shoes are on par.

Colour Options

Editor Rating:

  • Asics Gel 7 – 4.5/5
  • Asics Gel 8 – 5/5

Based on my research, it seems the Gel 7 has more than four different types of colours. Whiles the Gel 8 has about five varieties of colours. All of them are super and very attractive. I would give the 8 the edge since they have more colour options than the 7.

Cost

Editor Rating:

  • Asics Gel 7 – 5/5
  • Asics Gel 8 – 4/5

The last feature that I want to look at is the cost of both shoes. If you are on a lower budget then you would want to consider the Gel 7 than the 8. It’s less cheap and still have amazing features.

However, if you are thinking about the long run then you want to consider the 8. In terms of cost, Gel 7 wins because it would save you some money.

Final Verdict!!

As we come to the end of the ultimate debate between Asics Gel Resolution 7 vs 8. It’s pretty obvious that the Gel 8 outclass the 7 in many areas of the shoe.

For examples, the upper, midsole and so on are sport on. This shows that Asics did their homework very well and hopefully you would benefit tremendously out of it.

However, if you are on a tight budget then you want to consider the Gel 7. Apart from that, I feel Gel 8 has more features that would help your game in the long run.

  1. I own 22 pairs of 7.s and 8.s. the 8.s have a bad bend on the top bridge. Mildly more supportive. But there is cheapness to the shoe. Color choice is also way better in the 7.s. peacoat , 2 types of red, 3 oranges, whites x 4, the LS black are a show stopper… I wear them daily for work. They save my back.
